Elm Sprouts helps kids ages 4-6 develop emotional resilience

Elm Sprouts is a series that teaches children how to identify, understand, manage their emotions, and take deliberate action in social settings.
These screen-friendly stories and everyday conversations work behind the scenes to grow your child’s confidence, self-awareness, and emotional strength.
Because when your child learns how to navigate big feelings with clarity and care —they don’t just feel better.
They do better.

sel stands for
Social Emotional Learning
…And the term was first coined by Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning in 1994. Since then, the curriculum has become seen as essential by many for children from preschool through high school, and pioneered in over 200 countries by the Six Seconds organization.
SEL addresses five broad areas of competence: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
The Science Behind Elm Sprouts
What Are Social Stories?
Originally developed by Carol Gray, social stories are short, structured narratives that help children understand situations, manage emotions, and respond appropriately.
They’ve been widely used to support children on the autism spectrum.
They work because:
✅ they’re simple.
✅ they’re consistent.
✅ children learn best through stories that reflect their own lives.
A study by Donna Housman (2017) found that emotional competence built in early childhood is directly tied to stronger brain development, better self-regulation, and stronger performance later in life.
In Hong Kong, a longitudinal study across 27 grade schools found that SEL tools led to a significant reduction in problem behaviors— and better outcomes across the board.
The earlier children build these skills, the greater their advantage. These skills enable them to choose prosocial ways to cope with their feelings and reactions as they grow into adulthood independently.
